In Spain, the cosmetic industry is led by multinational subsidiaries. For example, L’Oréal and Johnson & Johnson are among the Spanish leading wholesalers , and Douglas and Sephora rank high in the list of principal Spanish cosmetic retailers. Yet with more than 500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in Spain, the number of SMEs in the cosmetics and perfumery manufacturing sector is one of the highest in comparison to other European countries.

New trends in the industry

Nowadays, people are more interested in natural cosmetics and reliable manufacturers. Every year, pharmacies in Spain continue to gain traction, winning an even larger share of the cosmetics market. In 2021, said share amounted to over 20 percent. E-commerce is also assuming an increasingly larger role in Spain’s cosmetic and perfume industry, with approximately 34 percent of consumers in Spain buying cosmetic and personal care products online in 2020.
